Meet Your Editors!

By / Thursday, October 8, 2009 / Category: About Us / No comments

Sarah Gremillion was raised in movie theaters, taking in everything from The Great Muppet Caper to The French Lieutenant’s Woman with equal attention, and her tastes have not narrowed much since. A recent inductee into the joys of parenting, she’ll probably be favoring DVD reviews over theater releases, a service she hopes will prove useful to any infirm, socially anxious, or otherwise home-bound readers such as herself. She loves watching terrible movies with her fellow editors (Step Up 2: The Streets is an honored favorite), and will always insist that Jon Stewart was a much better Oscar host than Hugh Jackman. Speaking of The Academy, she’s pretty sure that the decision to expand the Best Picture nominees to 10 will prove to be the Hollywood equivalent of lowering the mound and adding the designated hitter (ie, the decision that smells a little bit like sanctioning cheating, changes the game, mostly for the worse, and forever divides the records into Before and After) – but that’s really a discussion for another time. Oh, and one of her favorite things in life is when a talented movie critic really, really hates what he or she just saw.

Brian McClelland grew up a gawky, slightly girly, and sports-phobic band nerd—the result of, among other things, having been raised the only male in a musical (read: noisy) all-female household where he regularly viewed films grossly inappropriate for his age—in beautiful (not beautiful) pickup truck–laden Arnold, Missouri (Home of NASCAR’s Rusty Wallace! And meth production!). He is generally very happy and kind to animals small and large (and ugly, smelly, etc.). He has spent the last couple of decades making music (recently with defunct power pop outfit Maxtone Four, currently with Tight Pants Syndrome and Whoa, Thunder!) and now lives in a 116-year-old (unfortunately un)haunted house in beautiful (yep) Maplewood, Missouri. He also writes the first three-fourths of secret and mostly awesome novels and the occasional concert review for Playback:STL, where he served as live music editor for several years, getting the chance to interview many of his heroes (and an on-the-toilet KG of Tenacious D).  He is watching WALL-E and crying right now.

Kimberly can only dream of looking this great in a hat.

As someone who didn’t grow up in a moviegoing household, Kimberly Faulhaber professes she will never truly understand the blockbuster films of her youth, and often fantasizes about socking Spielberg right in the old breadbasket. She discovered her love of movies during her last year of high school (ie, the salad days of Miramax), when she and pals began frequenting indie theaters out of boredom/pretentiousness and mooned over Priest, Spanking the Monkey, Safe, and various Swedish films they did not understand. If she were Queen of Hollywood she would commission Whit Stillman and Chris Eigeman to make one film per year for her amusement. She would also give whoever thought of the exploding bunny in Doomsday a bucketful of gold doubloons. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where she is currently pretending to be a musician and rolling her eyes behind your back.

Some of her previous work with the fabulously snide Sarah Gremillion can be analyzed here.
